If the situation is favorable, popular political leaders will not only be able to reach the houses of power, but will also be able to achieve great successes according to their abilities, otherwise governments will spend most of their time fighting for their political survival. ۔
In such a situation, it becomes very difficult for a government headed by an inexperienced political leadership to keep the people satisfied with its performance.
In fact, these preamble words are very appropriate in the context of Pakistani politics. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan took full advantage of favorable conditions to win the 2018 general elections. The people believed in the slogans of change, the promise of a new Pakistan and the claims for the establishment of the state of Madinah for two reasons.
It is as if public confidence in the PTI had increased considerably and a lot of expectations were attached to Imran Khan. Therefore, there was no obstacle in gaining power. But when Imran Khan took over as Prime Minister, he realized that he had arrived unprepared, so the first year was spent understanding the situation, and the second year ended with the statement that a new way to fix things was new. The government needs some time.
But as the third year began, the people's patience began to wane, which is not without reason. It has become clear that no corrupt person has been held accountable, and corruption has not been prevented. There are serious allegations of corruption against many government ministers, including Khusro Bakhtiar, Aleem Khan, Faisal Wawda, Shaukat Tareen and Monis Elahi. It is not uncommon for him to appear in Pandora's papers.
You came to hold the previous rulers accountable, but now voices are being raised to hold your cabinet accountable. Governance in Punjab has not improved yet, most of the promises of reforms have not been fulfilled, and crores of jobs have not been made available to the people as promised. Despite claims of improvement in the economy, inflation began to rise sharply, and the condition of the poor began to deteriorate.
Excessive increase in prices of food items, electricity, gas and petroleum products has made life difficult for the common man. Then began a never-ending cycle of enforcement of new laws that forced students, young doctors, and the journalist community to take to the streets. It is beyond comprehension who is giving advice like introduction of exams like MDCAT, NLE, privatization of government hospitals? Who are these people who are advising violence instead of resolving issues with students and young doctors by mutual understanding? What a pity that on the one hand terrorists like TTP are being offered talks and amnesty but instead of listening to the legitimate and reasonable demands of medical students and young doctors they are being beaten.
Several large organizations representing the journalism department have protested against the establishment of the Pakistan Media Development Authority (PMDA), but no hearing has taken place. The methods being tried to control the media are in many ways inappropriate. On the one hand, it is being made to believe that despite diplomatic efforts, Britain does not want to hand over the founder of MQM and Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan. After getting Shahbaz Sharif a "clean chit" from the British judiciary shows that the world powers are interfering in Pakistan's political affairs, while the shortcomings in handling internal affairs are constantly alienating the public from the government. Mr. Prime Minister, if you make your own people angry, how will you deal with the conspiracies of others? The government should reconsider its policies, otherwise over time Imran Khan will lose his political popularity to such an extent that the PTI may face major setbacks in the 2023 general elections.
